Walter J. "Walt" Scheller was appointed Walter Energy's Chief Executive Officer in September 2011 after having served approximately one-and-one-half years as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company's primary subsidiary, Jim Walter Resources. He joined Walter Energy from Peabody Energy Corporation where he last worked as Group Executive - Colorado Operations and, before that, Senior Vice President - Strategic Operations. Prior to his career at Peabody, Scheller worked for CNX Gas Corporation as Vice President - Northern Appalachia Gas Operations, as well as Consol Energy, where he held a number of executive and operational roles, the last of which was Vice President – Operations. Scheller holds an M.B.A. degree from University of Pittsburgh - Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, a law degree from Duquesne University, and a bachelor's degree in mining engineering from West Virginia University. |
 Charles C. Stewart
President & Chief Operating Officer
Walter Coke & Walter Minerals
With the organization since 1978, Charles C. "Chuck" Stewart serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Walter Coke and Walter Minerals, two of Walter Energy's subsidiaries. He also has oversight for the Company's operations in West Virginia and Wales. Prior to his current status, Stewart held a number of progressively responsible leadership roles within the Walter Energy group, including Vice President - Operations of Sloss Industries (now Walter Coke) and Vice President - Engineering, General Manager - Purchasing & Materials Control, and General Manager - Safety & Training, all with Jim Walter Resources. Also at JWR, where Stewart began his career with the Company, he worked in multiple engineering and mine management roles. Stewart is a current board member of the Sloss Furnace Museum and a trustee of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, and he has served on several mining and manufacturing boards at both the state and national levels. He holds an M.B.A. degree from Samford University and a bachelor's degree in mineral engineering from the University of Alabama. |
Michael T. Madden
Global Head – Marketing
Walter Energy
Michael T. "Mike" Madden was appointed Global Head – Marketing at Walter Energy in April 2011 after having served as Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing and Vice President - Marketing, Transportation, and Quality Control for the Company's primary subsidiary, Jim Walter Resources. Prior to beginning his career with the organization in 1997, Madden held various management positions in the coal industry for both the domestic and export markets from 1974 through 1996. He is a member of the National Mining Association, the Alabama Coal Association, the Coal Trade Association of New York, and he has previously served as a director of the Coal Exporters Association. Madden holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from St. Bonaventure University. |
